Pack a Picnic – Ideas for a Perfect Wine Country Picnic
Updated: Jan 8, 2022
Have you tried packing a picnic and spending the day exploring the beautiful vineyards of San Diego? The scenery is breathtaking, and most wineries are happy to have you bring a picnic to eat while sipping their wine. When going wine tasting, my friends and I get INTO it. From charcuteries to dessert, no detail is left unturned.

Preparing
When planning your picnic, you'll want to contact the winery to confirm that they either have picnic tables or allow you to bring a picnic blanket to create your own picnic on their property.
Pack your picnic basket with the following supplies. These include:
Picnic blanket
Plates
Napkins
Silverware
Wine Opener
Water
Cutting board & Knife
Hand wipes
Cooler
Ice Packs
Considering the Menu
Use these items below as inspiration when choosing your menu for your winery picnic. Take into account how many people will be enjoying the picnic to determine how much of each item you will need.
French Bread – Visit your local bakery and pick up a freshly baked loaf of your favorite bread.

Assorted Cheese – Consider the wine you are drinking, as wine and cheese are a perfect pairing.
Dip – Make a quick dipping sauce for your fresh French bread with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a variety of herbs.
Sandwiches – keep it simple with a Spanish Bocadillo sandwich, which is comprised of various meats.
Pasta/Potato Salad – a staple side dish for all picnics.

Fresh Fruit – An assortment of berries pairs well with a sparkling wine, or a Petite Syrah.
Dessert – think of something easy, and not very messy. Brownies would be a perfect sweet treat, paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot.
Remember to pack your food with enough ice to keep cool until you're ready to enjoy!
After planning the perfect picnic, research local wineries to find one that welcomes outside food.
